Jonah Lomu reigned supreme as the top player for the All Blacks leading up to the 1999 World Cup. He continued to play through 2002 but he had started slowing down a bit. This time period also coincides with the rise of Tana Umaga who started playing right around 2001 and has been highly regarded as their best player until his retirement last year. Both are very large men with dark skin. Lomuh would have been practically bald while Umaga had dreadlocks.

Hope that helps!

Jonah... trying to make a come back to international rugby after a kidney transplant. Tana has retired from the All Blacks. No shortage of players to take their place.
