Question:
Should the BBC ditch Davies and Moore?

Unfortunately the BBC has seen fit to add Davies and Moore to their commentary team. Rather than add to the enjoyment of the programme these two 'analysts' detract greatly from every game in which they are involved. Moore just babbles along clearly just wishing to hear the sound of his own voice. Davies starts with the disadvantage of a terrible voice. However, his insights are appalling. Any armchair spectator can say 'he should have done this' or 'he should have done that'. Added to that is his blatant bias.

I do not see why the BBC need analysts in the first place, and certainly why they employ these two.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on Brian Moores commentary which is in the most part, negative, irritating babble; I much prefer the likes of Barnsy ; although Davies voice is a tad annoying I have just got used to it over the years....

Rugby commentating, as with any sports commentating, should be knowledgeable, descriptive, flowing, and especially unbiased. Anecdotes, particularly those which inject enthusiasm or humour, add to the listeners enjoyment of the occasion. Davies unfortunately fails to meet the high standards expected from the BBC. His whining voice doesn't help but his main faults are a constant stream of criticism and a delivery which reflects his superiority. His bias towards his homeland is blatant. Perhaps he has good first hand knowledge but this was tainted when he deserted the Union game for the League version. It would do him good to spend as much time as possible listening to tapes of Bill McLaren and to use a speech therapist to improve his vocal delivery. But then wouldn't it be easier for the BBC to replace him as soon as possible and note that being a well known personality isn't necessarily one of the qualifications required.

I'm not a great fan of Davies but I don't have a problem with Moore. Yes, he probably does like the sound of his own voice but at least he's prepared to explain his opinions and doesn't take himself too seriously which is a vast improvement on most football pundits. The person the Beeb should get rid of is Guscott. He's more arrogant, outspoken and ignorant than Moore will ever be and they give him more air time.

Johnathan Davies is more knowledgeable about the game than most, having succeeded in both codes at international level. It's Eddie Butler and Brian Moore you mean. Both are hopeless as commentators. As for Davies's voice,he is asthmatic. It didn't stop him playing rugby and i don't see why it should stop him making appropriate comments as an expert analyst

i disagree.... i'm no longer English.... and that i admire the BBC reporting of the 6 countries England is the biggest of the abode countries and consequently gets greater assurance its that straightforward i think of butler and Moore do a super activity... Moore is merely as extreme of england's forwards by way of fact the contest if not greater so and has an information of the scrum (fairly the front row) that few commentators have who ought to replace them... any recommendations ???? its somewhat common to criticize

I am so glad you raised this question. Cannot stand Brian Moore...he is so biased and Davis is worse than Eddie Butler getting the players names wrong. I really like Stuart Barnes as a rugby commentator...his commentry is excellent and may I say quite poetic

Davies,no.Hes not too bad and more passionate than biased. As for Moore, the mans a grade A muppet with distinction. He can watch a reply of an incident and commentate that something very different to what our eyes are watching,is happening. Its his kind that goes about stealing gimp masks, and i have my suspicions that the fat git has got mine.

Brian Moore yes - he is argumentative, arrogant and plain miserable (and a Chelsea fan)

Davies - to be honest, I like his analysis and his voice and his excitability ("give it" - was being screamed in the background last night to Jamie Roberts).

We could get that guy from the darts? Sid Waddell?

I miss Bill McClaren ;-(

I agree with you when it comes to Moore, but not Jiffy Davies.........I think you maybe mistaking him with Eddie Butler, who was commenting with Moore during the England v Ireland yesterday......now he really does need to go!

Both of them are commentary genius's compared to Stuart Barnes. It's Austin Healey that I object to, but I object to Healey breathing!!!!

Nothing wrong with either of them!

I'm guessing you're from London.
